Well...all i can tell you is what i know! Through repair experience i can tell you that the most reliable brand that i know off is Panasonic. Their TV's have the lowest failure rate and are among the best performing! Brands in order of reliability & performance(best first): 1) Panasonic/ Pioneer 2) Samsung 3) Sony 4) LG/ Sharp 5) Toshiba/ Vizio/ Insignia Brands that i did not mention, i recommend you stay away from. They may be much cheaper...but there's a reason for that!!! FYI...there are many people out there that are haters of certain brands. This is due to them being biased and ignorant! They probably bought a TV, only to have it brake a few months or years later. So they get mad and think the whole brand is like that! Granted...some brands are junk, but this isn't always the case. "All " brands suffer from the occasional lemon!!! This is unavoidable! The brands i've listed above are based on experience of many years! Not irrationality! Oh...and keep in mind that Pioneer no longer makes HDTVs! They 'were' the best of the best for many years, but now they're extremely hard to find! Hope this helps!

To be honest.....its all up to you. Don't just go into a store see which one looks the best and grab that one. A lot of times the stores will turn up the brightness to get a brighter image and hope to make you think it looks better. I own a philips 42 " and it looks great. paid like 700 for it at the time brand new. Vizio I think are the best TV's for your money...RCA just don't grab me and sanyo's are great but Vizio's just grab my attention. Also, you're gonna want a TV that has enough ports and everything for you. If you're gonna need a lot of HDMI slots, get one with like 4 or maybe more.

The tv with the best contrast ratio has the best picture in most cases. some tvs like samsung will run brighter versus tv's like sony which run darker pictures. the tvs in most stores are plugged into coaxial cables and can only come through at a 1080i signal. all of them now will be either 1080p or 720 p. 1080i is equivalent to under 720p so the tvs will all look relatively the same. ask to see a tv thats plugged into a blueray player to see the picture at 1080p. tvs like rca nd proscan (proscan is made by rca) have extremely low contrast ratios. the 32 inch proscan i beleive is 1200:1... thats embarassingly low, versue the 32 inch sony which has 15,000:1 and the samsung at 30,000:1. i would recomment vizio in the 32 inch size (they are made by sony out in california, so they are american made and its easy to get a part if you need it). if you go with a larger tv. you have to go samsung really, for a better picture. please dont buy a philips or a sanyo. just compare the specs. higher numbers are always better when it comes to tv specs.

Go to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs along with the pro and con of Plasma and LCD tvs. You will notice that Panasonic has a tv recommended in each price category of entry level to the high end. While Sony, Samsung and Toshiba does not (April issue). Other brands like LG, Sharp, Sanyo and Vizio did not even get mentioned. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tvs problems are LCD and 95% are off brands. From your choices Sanyo would be the best choice. Keep in mind also that you can not see the difference between 720P and 1080P in screen smaller than a 46 ". Hope this will help you out.

I would not recommend RCA or Sanyo. Phillips or Vizio are decent brand to get or for sure get good quality brand like Samsung, Sony or Panasonic amazon.com/ gp/ redirect.html?ie= UTF8 &location= http%3A%2F%2Famazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26node%3D724227011%252C979929011%26ref_%3DCAT%5F500LN%5FVb%5Fftlc1 &tag= computer0bd-20 &linkCode= ur2 &camp= 1789 &creative= 390957

Well let Mr.Funeral help you with that. Do brands matter when you are buying televisions? YES! When you are talking about televisions, the brand can actually sometimes affect the visual quality more greatly than the stats themselves. For instance, many people prefer visually a top of the line, 720p television to a low end 1080p model even though the 1080p model's stats are higher. In this article we will go through the process of selecting a brand. The first thing that I will say to you is, DO NOT GET STUCK ON BRAND LOYALTY! Just because a certain brand made great TVs 15 years ago, does not mean that they still do. In fact, with the jump to flat screen many brands shifted place in quality of product. Step 2Don't go for the bargain. There are certain brands that are bargain basement. If the price seems to good to be true, it probably is. You are better off waiting a couple months and paying an extra couple hundred dollars for a quality set that you have researched, than giving in to a "good deal " temptation. Many "bargain " brands have shoddy hardware that degrades the visual quality and can fail within the first few years. Because of how expensive a TV is, if you plan to keep it for a while, it is one of the last things that you want to cut corners on. Step 3Research the brand. Get on a consumer reporting or consumer review website and see what people have to say about brands. Go to several electronics stores and talk to the salesmen about which brands are quality. By the way, most larger stores don't give their salesmen commission, so when they are telling you that the more expensive television is better quality, it probably is. Step 4Finally look for yourself. Yes, stats do matter. You should consider whether the set is 1080p or whether it is 120 hz, but don't get hung up on them. As I said before, most people will prefer visually a top of the line 32 " 720p model, rather than a low end 1080p model. Use your eyes on this one. While you can adjust the setting somewhat you will still find that some brands play brighter than others and that some have a more natural color tone while others are more intense. While your at the store forget the stats for 1 minute and look at the TVs and ask yourself which looks best to you.
