For every passenger, you have Duty FREE allowance of Rs.25,000. If you have goods worth more than this, then they will charge Customs duty for the difference. Keep the receipt. Las June when I traveled to Chennai, I carried a 32 " Sony TV with me. The FREE allowance was Rs.50,000 (for me and my wife). So they did not charge anything. But you have to show the original receipt as a proof. This was at Chennai airport. I'm not sure about other airports. LCD TVs comes more or less the same price in India. The prices have come down. Check out the current prices and available models at this link. sysgoods.com/ lcd-tv/ Also make sure that the TV is PAL supported. NTSC tvs dont work in India. The NTSC to PAL converters cost an Arm and a Leg. :-) |
